I've done beta-reading for friends and also some people I've never met outside of ff.net and by taking a look at how I work and at the reactions I got from the authors in question, I am pretty thorough: I like to go over texts in different layers, taking a look at the story, the characters, timing, development, style, grammar and typos (as far as I can). And I am - at least I was told so - a good plot-hole-mender or at least someone who patiently goes over different ideas and drafts until the author is satisfied with what they have produced.

Usually I try to be both friendly AND honest. I will always point out strengths of something, brilliant ideas and storylines that work well or phrases and parts of a text that I love, but I always put the finger on what bothers me or could be a problem. The fact that I am 'mean' and do not read and comment a text as a beta simply to feed an author's hunger for praise has lost me at least one author on my list (but that certain novel of hers never made it into bookstores, anyway;)). 272x2n

So if you actually consider me as a beta you should be prepared for lots and lots of , and not all of it is guaranteed to be all positive, although I try to be a nice person. Really, I do. But: if I work with you, I will really try all my best to help and pour a lot of time and energy into a project.

My strengths... I am quick at coming up with ideas if a plothole made you trip and I am pretty good at finding inconsistencies in a story. For shorter stuff - drabbles, oneshots - I pride myself in being able to help smooth a text and finding appropriate similes and metaphors.

A plus in some categories ist that 1) I am German and can help you if you need some translations and b) I study Classical Chinese but have also learned Mandarin and can offer help with translations, names and Chinese characters as well als mythology, history and views of the world and the supernatural. How many people are there who can explain how the pitching of a pipe is connected to the seasons? ;)

I am German. Which means I am NOT a native speaker in English, obviously. A lot of nice people have told me that at least in written English the fact is not that glaringly obvious, but still I can offer no help at all concerning convincing colloquial language for instance, although my skills at finding typos and spelling errors are not that bad, since I had to learn it all the hard way.

I love longer stories - everything with a complex plot and some story twists gets me salivating.

If you do not care much for plot, but rather for a certain pairing or something that makes you chose an M-rating... I'd probably not be much of a help, anyway. I do not mind that in general, but I do need a little bit of story or at least convincing motives and ideas to work on.
