After spending several days investigating a murder in the first snowfall of winter, Harry's neglect to buy himself a decent coat results in a worried, pacing ghost. Sickfic; pure h/c.

They say that the best way is to leave the past and move on. However, when you desire nothing more than to follow that golden rule, past comes to haunt you down, unbidden. Harry finds out a family secret that can endanger the lives of all the people he loves.

A worried mother comes to Dresden, afraid there was something supernatural is following her young daughter. Naturally, he agrees to check and see if there was anything scary going on. What he discovers when the child walks through his door is nothing close to what he's expecting. It seems the universe loves tossing the weirder cases at him.

Summary: Dresden just got done with a hard case and is wondering if it's all worth it

Dresden has to a simple job to do. Protect a sword. But as with all jobs Ancient Mai gives Harry Dresden, she never tells him the whole story. Yeah, that would've been real helpful. A spirit cursed to be forever attached to the sword? Yeah, He can handle that. Demons wanting to destroy said sword? No problem. Ghosts flirting? No clue.

Someone was holding him, and he didn't care if it was a half-lunatic who reeked of cheap shampoo, old incense, infallible bad luck, and not a little failure at life in general, because there was real sadness in Harry's dark eyes, and Bob was glad to die for something worthwhile this time around. When her daughter is kidnapped from her bed, Murphy seeks help from Dresden to find her. But when Harry discovers traces of supernatural energy in Anna's room, he realizes it's more than just a simple abduction. He also realizes it might be time to clue Murphy in to the world he'd been protecting her from for so long.
