Things at the Whitechapel station were back on course, it had been a few months since the tragic case of the Bogeyman but DI Chandler was sure that for now at least his team was back on track to being the best they had been. That is until Ed turns around to announce he's retiring, but not to worry he has the perfect replacement. Miles is just hoping its no one crazy.

Joseph Chandler is the only person in Whitechapel oblivious to the feelings of DC Emerson Kent. However, that may not be so true after a late night shift in the station.

Chandler hates Christmas shopping, and running into a familiar face doesn't exactly help. Not at first, anyway.

It's that time of year again: Ed Buchan, self-appointed Christmas Angel, has bought a tree for the incident room, Kent needs rescuing, Mansell gets tangled, and Chandler tries not to be unprofessional.

Years later, Kent thinks back to the day he was suspended.

"Joe glanced at his watch. He should probably think about making tracks soon – the weather forecast had promised snow that evening and he didn't want to get stuck in a blizzard halfway home, unsure if the best way forward would in fact be to go back."
